Assessment of Bacterial Biocontrol agents Formulations against Anthracnose of Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) in Côte d’Ivoire
Auteurs: Tehua Amoa Armist, KOFFI Yao Fulgence, Ake Moussan Désirée Francine, Abo Kouabenan, Alloue-Boraud Wazé Aimée Mireille, Koné Daouda
Date publication: 2024-09-09

The cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale L.) is of vital importance to the Ivorian economy. Côte d’Ivoire is first world producer. However, its cultivation faces several constraints linked to anthracnose. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of two formulated bacterial biocontrol agents against anthracnose of cashew. To this end, in vitro confrontation tests were carried out against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides with two previously formulated bacterial biopesticides. Biocontrol tests were then carried out against anthracnose in greenhouses and cashew plantations. The results showed...

Fungal Flora on Weeds in the Cashew (<i>Anacardium occidentale</i> L.) Orchard in Côte d’Ivoire
Auteurs: Traoré Aboulaye, S Soro, AYEMOU Alloua Richmonde Emmanuella, Traoré-Ouattara Karidia, Kouabénan Abo, Koné Daouda
Date publication: 2023-01-01
Journal: Scientific Research Publishing, Inc.
Since 2015, Côte d’Ivoire has been the world’s largest cashew producer. However, cashew orchards in Côte d’Ivoire are infected by fungal diseases that weaken production. And the contribution of weeds to the spread of these diseases is not yet understood. This study was initiated with the aim of establishing the role of weeds in the proliferation of pathogenic fungi in orchards. It consisted of a survey of weeds showing disease symptoms in cashew orchards in Côte d’Ivoire from February 2021 to July 2022. The itinerant method was used for the weed inventory. Symptomatic leaves were collected and...

Date publication: 2023-05-27
Journal: Sciencedomain International
Context: In Côte d’Ivoire, industrial banana plantations are faced with the problem of weediness. However, the use of herbicides as a means of control presents significant risks for human health and the environment. The abandonment of these products for more ecological alternatives such as cover crops is imminent.
Aims: This study aimed to compare the relative abundance and the density of the main plant-parasitic nematodes in the roots of banana and cover crops according to three weed management treatments.
Study Design and Methodology: The experimental design was a three-repeat Fi...

This study aims to evaluate the effects of two leguminous plants Arachis repens and Desmodium adscendens, used as cover crops, on the proliferation of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal spores in soils under industrial banana plantations. Soil samples were collected at two depths (0-10 cm and 10-20 cm) before, 6 and 12 months after the cover crops installation in a three-treatment Fisher block design. After laboratory analysis of the collected soil samples, the results showed that A. repens strongly contributed to the increase of AM fungal spores. Indeed, before planting this legume, the avera...

Education and Socio-economic status are key factors influencing use of insecticides and malaria knowledge in rural farmers in Southern Côte d’Ivoire
Auteurs: Ruth Marie A. Kouame, Federica Guglielmo, Kouabénan Abo, Allassane Ouattara, Joseph Chabi, Luigi Sedda, Martin J. Donnelly, Constant Edi
Date publication: 2022-12-28
Journal: Springer Science and Business Media LLC
Abstract Background Insecticides play a key role in rural farming; however, their over- or misuse has been linked with a negative impact on malaria vector control policies. This study was conducted amongst agricultural communities in Southern Côte d’Ivoire to identify which insecticides are used by local farmers and how it relates to the perception of farmers on malaria. Understanding the use of insecticides may help in designing awareness programme on mosquito control and pesticides management. Methods A questionnaire was administered to 1399 farming households across ten villages. Farmers we...

Functional properties of raw and heat processed cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale, L.) kernel protein isolates
Auteurs: Vicente Queiroga Neto, Narendra Narain, J. B. Silva, Pushkar Singh Bora
Date publication: 2001-08-01
Journal: Springer Singapore
The functional properties viz. solubility, water and oil absorption, emulsifying and foaming capacities of the protein isolates prepared from raw and heat processed cashew nut kernels were evaluated. Protein solubility vs. pH profile showed the isoelectric point at pH 5 for both isolates. The isolate prepared from raw cashew nuts showed superior solubility at and above isoelectric point pH. The water and oil absorption capacities of the proteins were slightly improved by heat treatment of cashew nut kernels. The emulsifying capacity of the isolates showed solubility dependent behavior and was...

ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF PLANT PARASITIC NEMATODES AFFECTING TOMATO (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM, LINN.) IN GIWA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KADUNA, NIGERIA
Auteurs: Ibrahim Chinedu Isa, Marvise Chinyere Eze, Kamba Bayo
Date publication: 2024-12-31
Journal: Federal University Dutsin-Ma
Plant-parasitic nematodes are the major biotic stressor in crop cultivation. They are recognized as one of the greatest threats to crops worldwide. The study evaluated nematodes that affect tomato in Giwa Local Government area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Samples were collected from two selected farms each from seven locations. The tomato samples were classified as diseased and healthy based on the appearance of the plants. In each farm, four samples were taken during the growing season; two from diseased plants and two from apparently healthy looking plants. Similarly, soil samples from diseased a...

Influence of root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne spp. on the growth and production of ten cultivars of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in Yamoussoukro in the center of Côte d’Ivoire
Auteurs: Didier Junior KAKOU, Kouabénan Abo, Ler-N’Ogn Dadé Georges Elisée Amari, Aya Carine N’guessan, Camara Brahima
Date publication: 2020-04-06
Journal: Excellent Publishers
Tomato is a widely produced and widely consumed crop in Côte d’Ivoire. However, its production is harmed by many pests such as fungal diseases, bacterial diseases, viral diseases and pests including root-knot nematodes. In order to identify the best varieties against this pest, a study of ten tomato varieties was conducted in the Yamoussoukro region of central Côte d'Ivoire. The device adopted for the test, was complete Fischer blocks in randomization. Observations included tomato development and production parameters, earliness, root-knot nematode population, and yield components. The results...

An Assessment of the Benefits and Period of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in Plant Growth Regulation and the Level of Fertilizer Influential Tomato Development (Solanum lycopersicum L.)
Auteurs: Ouattara Brahima, Abo Kouabenan, Tuo Seydou, Silué Nakpalo, Koné N’golo Abdoulaye, Koné Daouda
Date publication: 2020-11-30

Data on tomato fitness improvement by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) remain patchy. The present study was initiated to evaluate the effect of the period of AMF inoculation as well as the level of mineral manure on tomato growth. The experiment took place from June to October 2016, in the West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use greenhouse. AMF inocula were applied to seeds and/or transplants, each receiving three different levels of chemical fertilizer. The impact of the inoculation period and the level of fertilization, were assessed on plant growth param...
