Absorbance measurement in dense media via conventional optical spectroscopy techniques leads to inaccurate results. This is mainly due to multiple scattering phenomena that contribute to the overall light extinction in the interrogated sample. This limitation imposes the use of dilute solutions for absorption spectroscopy. However, depending on the polarity of the solvent used, the absorption spectrum may vary over a given solution. Structured illumination technique offers an alternative to this problem, and provides the ability to calculate in-situ optical properties in dense media. In this p...

Indeed the red and blue LEDs respectively give the highest and the lowest biomass. Moreover, we have tested with 660 nm LED, many lighting level on spirulina growth. This experiment permit us to study photoinhibition and to determine optimal...

Studying power transformers cooling effectiveness from computational fluid dynamics approach
Auteurs: K. S. Kassi, I. Fofana, Marie‐Isabelle Farinas, C. Volat
Date publication: 2016-06-01
Journal: IEEE
In this contribution, data from experimental investigations are used to develop a numerical model allowing studying the impact of mineral oils degradation on the cooling of layer-type windings power transformers. From the obtained results, it was confirmed that oil decay products, especially sludge formation are also contributing factors to temperature rise in the transformers.

Sub-Tree-Based Approach for Reconfiguration of Light-Tree Pair without Flow Interruption in Sparse Wavelength Converter Network
Auteurs: Amanvon Ferdinand Atta, Joël Christian Adépo, Bernard Cousin, Souleymane Oumtanaga
Date publication: 2021-05-17
Journal: MDPI AG
Network reconfiguration is an important mechanism for network operators to optimize network performance and optical flow transfer. It concerns unicast and multicast connections. Multicast connections are required to meet the bandwidth requirements of multicast applications, such as Internet Protocol-based TeleVision (IPTV), distance learning, and telemedicine. In optical networks, a multicast connection is made possible by the creation of an optical tree-shaped path called a light-tree. The problem of light-tree pair reconfiguration is addressed in this study. Given an initial light-tree used...

Surface Water Sediments Characterization Using Metallic Trace Elements (MTEs): Case of the Artisanal Gold Mining Sites of Kokumbo (Côte d’Ivoire)
Auteurs: Kouassi Ernest Ahoussi, Armand Patrick Yapo, Amani Michel Kouassi, Yao Blaise Koffi
Date publication: 2020-01-01
Journal: Scientific Research Publishing, Inc.
The main purpose of this study is to characterize the surface sediments of the Kokumbo artisanal gold mining sites in Metallic trace Elements (MTEs). A total of 12 samples of surface water sediments were collected for this study. The samples were analyzed using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The mean concentrations of Mn (611.37 mg/kg) and Zn (955.86 mg/kg) in the sediments were very high compared to the standard in unpolluted sediments. The enrichment factor (EF) shows that there is an enrichment of Mn at some sites (EF (Mn) > 2). The presence of As, Mn, and Zn is also highlig...

Symbolic Construction of Dynamic Mixed Integer Programs for Power System Management
Auteurs: Harry G. Kwatny, Edoe Mensah, D. Niebur, Carole Teolis
Date publication: 2006-01-01
Journal: IEEE
In this presentation, we discuss a symbolic tool, implemented in Mathematica that converts a hybrid automaton model of a power system into either a mixed logical dynamic system (MLD) or a dynamic mixed integer program (DMIP). The tool, converts any logical specification into mixed-integer formulas (IP formulas). For example the transition specification for the automaton is converted into a set of inequalities involving Boolean variables. The IP formulas can be used in decision computations using mixed integer programs or mixed integer dynamic programming. An example will be given involving con...

Cashew apple bagasse is biomass rich in little-exploited lignocellulosic material. This study used this biomass as a support for cell immobilisation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. For this purpose, the immobilisation technique by attachment to a surface was applied. The bagasse used in this study contained 32.6% lignin. After delignification, the lignin content of the bagasse was 3.33%. The cell density was 1.21 × 108 cells g-1 for the immobilised cells prepared for 24 h. For the immobilised cells prepared for 48 h, the cell density was 1.71 × 108 cells g-1. Microscopic observations showed that...
