Propriétés physiques et chimiques des tryptophanases de cinq espèces d'Entérobactériaceae
Auteurs: C Simard, A. Mardini, L. M. Bordeleau
Date publication: 1975-06-01
Journal: Canadian Science Publishing
The molecular weight, sedimentation coefficient, and amino acids composition were determined on five tryptophanases (TPases) from Escherichia coli B and E. aurescens, Shigella alkalescens, and Proteus vulgaris and P. morganii. These TPases have identical sedimentation profile and coefficient (9.6 S), and the same molecular weight (220 000). Each enzyme is constituted of four identical subunits having a molecular weight of 55 000. The amino acids composition of these TPases is very similar, with the exception of P. morganii and P. vulgaris TPases which present significative variations in basic...

A review of the principles of turbidity measurement
Auteurs: B. Kitchener, John Wainwright, Anthony J. Parsons
Date publication: 2017-08-23
Journal: Informa UK Limited
Turbidity of water due to the presence of suspended sediment is measured and interpreted in a variety of ways, which can lead to the misinterpretation of data. This paper re-examines the physics of light scattering in water, and exposes the extent to which the reporting of turbidity data is inconsistent. It is proposed that the cause of this inconsistency is the fact that the accepted turbidity standards USEPA Method 180.1, ISO 7027 and GLI Method 2 are mutually inconsistent, as these standards give rise to a large number of measurement units that are not based on the optical properties of lig...

Médecine vétérinaire traditionnelle en Inde /
Auteurs: G Mazars
Date publication: 1994-06-01
Journal: O.I.E (World Organisation for Animal Health)
A tradition of veterinary therapy developed very early in India and this has survived to the present time. Based on the Ayurveda ('knowledge concerning longevity'), a medical art which had its roots in the literature of the Veda (1500-1000 BC), Indian veterinary medicine is known for its specialised literature, which provides information on ancient methods of preventing and treating diseases of animals before the advent of modern medicine. Some of these treatments, little known outside India, are still practised today.

Visual Representation of African Traditional Medicine Recipes Using Icons and a Formal Ontology, ontoMEDTRAD
Auteurs: Appoh Kouame, Konan Marcellin Brou, Moussa Lô, Jean-Baptiste Lamy
Date publication: 2020-01-01
Journal: IOS Press
In traditional West African medicine, most practitioners are illiterate for official languages. 1127 local languages exist in this region. The transmission of knowledge in this traditional medicine is notoriously oral. In order to enable practitioners to communicate and preserve this knowledge, we are building SysMEDTRAD, a traditional medicine management system, based on a formal ontology of traditional medicine called ontoMEDTRAD. To overcome the language and illiteracy barriers, we propose to combine realistic photographs of plants with formal iconic descriptions of plants and recipes. This...

Abstract West Africa, the largest cocoa‐producing region globally, has experienced significant deforestation in recent decades, leading countries to implement large‐scale agroforestry policies; however, most studies on farmers' adoption of agroforestry fail to consider the social (Who?), historical (When?), geographical (Where?), and ecological (What?) factors that influence their motivations to value trees. Drawing from a sample of 150 farmers responsible for the management of 12,096 trees, we quantified the motivations of farmers for 10 material and immaterial uses of trees and used a Bayesi...

Why is Technological Innovation Locally Concentrated? A Theoretical Review
Auteurs: B. G. Jean Jacques Iritié
Date publication: 2023-11-10
Journal: Canadian Center of Science and Education
In this paper, we provide a theoretical overview of the reasons behind the concentration of technological innovation in some areas. To do so, we first examine the issues of innovation as established by macroeconomic theories of growth then we discuss the incentives for its production according to market structures. Then, using an approach based on the economics and management of knowledge, we analyze the mechanisms and dynamics of the co-localization of innovative industries through the results of theoretical models of industrial organization. Specifically, we show that the localization of inn...

Date publication: 2012-10-01
Journal: Springer Netherlands
Mucuna pruriens (Fabaceae) is an established herbal drug used for the management of male infertility, nervous disorders, and also as an aphrodisiac. It has been shown that its seeds are potentially of substantial medicinal importance. The ancient Indian medical system, Ayurveda, traditionally used M. pruriens, even to treat such things as Parkinson's disease. M. pruriens has been shown to have anti-parkinson and neuroprotective effects, which may be related to its anti-oxidant activity. In addition, anti-oxidant activity of M. pruriens has been also demonstrated in vitro by its ability to scav...

Aim/background: This study made it possible to assess the importance of Fusarium wilt of cotton in Côte d'Ivoire, through its distribution and the level of pathogenicity of populations of the pathogen. One of the factors limiting cotton production in Côte d'Ivoire is Fusarium wilt, a disease caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. vasinfectum. Methods: The fungal material obtained from samples of cotton plants showing symptoms of Fusarium wilt in the field was used for the root dip inoculation test to evaluate the level of virulence of the twenty-four (24) isolates representative of our...

The cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale L.) is of vital importance to the Ivorian economy. Côte d’Ivoire is first world producer. However, its cultivation faces several constraints linked to anthracnose. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of two formulated bacterial biocontrol agents against anthracnose of cashew. To this end, in vitro confrontation tests were carried out against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides with two previously formulated bacterial biopesticides. Biocontrol tests were then carried out against anthracnose in greenhouses and cashew plantations. The results showed...
